Students understood the necessities that plants use to survive by using the anagram P.L.A.N.T.S. P for a place to live, L for light (sunlight), A for air, N for nutrients, T for thirst, and S for soil. The children incorporated these necessities on their hand made paper hats by drawing and crafting these on their hats. We made use of more paper by shredding newspapers and soaking the pieces in water. The kids got to smoosh and mush the small slabs onto cups to form their very own paper pots. After they were finished, the cups were set to dry with the students' names. When the pots were all dry, soil was added by the mentors and the marigold flower seeds were placed in by the children.
