This week the students’ projects were based on Father’s Day.
The students created Grow Cards, which involved lots of colored construction
paper, wet chunks of newspaper, cookie cutters, and a blender. The mentors
placed a small amount of newspaper into the blender, as well as pieces of
construction paper and water. We then blended it all together. After the
smoothie-like goop was drained and poured onto a tray, the children used cookie
cutters to form all types of shapes for their father’s special day. When it was
formed they sprinkled grass seeds on top and set it to dry. We made sure to drain
enough water so the seeds would not grow until the kids poured enough water
onto them. The students created these shapes to place into their father’s
cards. All of them were expectant and hoped to see the delight in their
father’s eyes.
